Description

A delightful strawberry chocolate shell cake that combines moist layers of cake with rich chocolate and succulent strawberries.


Ingredients

  • 2 cups cake flour
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, room temperature
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 8 ounces dark chocolate (70% cocoa)
  • 2 cups fresh strawberries, diced

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (180°C). Grease and flour two round cake pans and set them aside.
  2. Whisk together the cake flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt in a bowl.
  3. Cream together the butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
  4. Add the eggs, one at a time, and mix well after each addition. Slowly incorporate the milk until smooth.
  5. Fold in the dry ingredients until just combined.
  6. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean. Allow to cool in pans.
  7. Melt the dark chocolate, stirring frequently.
  8. Assemble the cake by layering strawberries and chocolate between the two cake layers, then pour remaining chocolate over the top.
  9. Chill in the refrigerator for at least an hour before serving.
  10. Garnish with additional strawberry slices or mint leaves.

Notes

Allow your cakes to cool completely before pouring the chocolate shell to prevent it from running off too quickly.
