- 4 medium Apples (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp)
- 1/2 cup Unsalted Butter
- 1 cup Brown Sugar
- 1 cup Granulated Sugar
- 2 cups All-Purpose Flour
- 3 large Eggs
- 2 teaspoons Baking Powder
- 1 teaspoon Vanilla Extract
- 1 teaspoon Cinnamon
Instructions
- Prepare your apples: Peel, core, and slice them; toss with lemon juice and cinnamon.
- Make the caramel: Melt butter and brown sugar in a skillet over low heat; stir until smooth and bubbly, then pour into baking pan.
- Arrange apples on top of the caramel in the baking pan.
- Cream together granulated sugar and remaining butter until fluffy; add eggs one at a time and stir in vanilla.
- Combine flour, baking powder, and remaining cinnamon; gradually mix into the wet ingredients, alternating with milk until combined.
- Pour the batter over the apples and caramel; smooth the top.
- Bake at 350°F for 30-35 minutes until a toothpick comes out clean.
- Cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then invert onto a platter.
- Serve warm, dusted with powdered sugar or with ice cream.
Notes
Use fresh apples for best results. Avoid overheating the caramel and don’t overmix the batter to keep the cake fluffy.
