Description

A rich and indulgent cake made with black cocoa powder, perfect for special occasions or just a sweet treat.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1/2 cup black cocoa powder
  • 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 ½ cups granulated sugar
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup buttermilk

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease two 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. Mix dry ingredients: sift together black cocoa powder, flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt.
  3. Cream the softened butter and sugar in a large mixing bowl until light and fluffy, about 5 minutes.
  4. Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition, and then stir in the vanilla.
  5. Alternate adding the dry mixture with buttermilk, starting and finishing with flour until well combined.
  6. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
  7. Cool the cakes in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
  8. Frost with vanilla buttercream or dust with powdered sugar before serving.

Notes

Ensure your butter is at room temperature for the best texture. Allow the cake to cool properly for a moist crumb.
