Description
A comforting and nostalgic dish of tender beef patties in rich mushroom gravy, perfect for family gatherings.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 lb 80/20 ground beef
- 1/2 cup bread crumbs
- 1 large egg
- 1/2 onion, diced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1 cup mushrooms, sliced
- 1 cup beef broth
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Oil for frying
- 1 tbsp butter
- 1 tbsp flour (for thickening gravy)
Instructions
- Prepare the Patties: In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, bread crumbs, egg, onion, minced garlic, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper.
- Shape the Patties: Form the mixture into oblong-shaped patties about 1/2 inch thick.
- Cook the Patties: In a large skillet over medium heat, add a splash of oil and brown the patties for about 4-5 minutes on each side.
- Make the Gravy: In the same skillet, add a touch of butter and sauté the mushrooms until golden brown. Add more garlic and onion, and let them soften.
- Add the Broth: Gradually pour in the beef broth, stirring continuously to avoid lumps, and let the gravy simmer for about 5 minutes.
- Combine: Place the steak patties back into the skillet, allowing them to soak in the gravy for about 10 minutes.
- Serve: Serve immediately with creamy mashed potatoes and sautéed green beans on the side.
Notes
Don’t overmix the patties to keep them tender. Serve with seasonal vegetables for a balanced meal.
