Description

Ingredients

  • 1 lb 80/20 ground beef
  • 1/2 cup bread crumbs
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/2 onion, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 cup mushrooms, sliced
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Oil for frying
  • 1 tbsp butter
  • 1 tbsp flour (for thickening gravy)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Patties: In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, bread crumbs, egg, onion, minced garlic, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper.
  2. Shape the Patties: Form the mixture into oblong-shaped patties about 1/2 inch thick.
  3. Cook the Patties: In a large skillet over medium heat, add a splash of oil and brown the patties for about 4-5 minutes on each side.
  4. Make the Gravy: In the same skillet, add a touch of butter and sauté the mushrooms until golden brown. Add more garlic and onion, and let them soften.
  5. Add the Broth: Gradually pour in the beef broth, stirring continuously to avoid lumps, and let the gravy simmer for about 5 minutes.
  6. Combine: Place the steak patties back into the skillet, allowing them to soak in the gravy for about 10 minutes.
  7. Serve: Serve immediately with creamy mashed potatoes and sautéed green beans on the side.

Notes

Don’t overmix the patties to keep them tender. Serve with seasonal vegetables for a balanced meal.
