Description
Comforting Cheesy Meatball Subs filled with savory meatballs, melted cheese, and marinara sauce, perfect for gatherings.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1 lb ground pork
- 1 cup breadcrumbs
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/4 cup chopped fresh basil
- 1/4 cup chopped fresh parsley
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1/2 tsp red pepper flakes
- 2 cups marinara sauce
- 4 sub rolls
- 2 cups mozzarella cheese, shredded
Instructions
- Prepare the meatballs: In a large bowl, mix your ground meat with breadcrumbs, minced garlic, chopped herbs, and seasonings. Form into evenly sized meatballs, around one to two inches in diameter.
- Cook the meatballs: Heat some oil in a skillet over medium heat. Sauté them, turning occasionally until golden brown on all sides and cooked through, about 10-12 minutes.
- Simmer in marinara sauce: In a separate pot, heat your marinara sauce, then add the cooked meatballs. Let them simmer for about 10 minutes.
- Assemble the subs: Preheat your oven to 375°F. Place your sub rolls on a baking sheet, fill each with meatballs, and top with mozzarella cheese.
- Melt the cheese: Bake the assembled subs for about 10 minutes or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
- Garnish and serve: Remove from the oven, garnish with extra herbs if desired, and serve hot.
Notes
For variations, add sautéed peppers or onions to your meatball mixture and experiment with different cheeses.
