Description

Delightful heart-shaped doughnut holes that capture the essence of childhood memories and sweetness.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups All-Purpose Flour
  • 3/4 cup Granulated Sugar
  • 1 tablespoon Baking Powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon Baking Soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon Salt
  • 2 large Eggs
  • 1 cup Buttermilk
  • 1/4 cup Unsalted Butter, melted
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla Extract
  • Vegetable Oil for frying
  • 1 cup Powdered Sugar (for glaze)
  • 24 tablespoons Milk (for glaze)

Instructions

  1. Prep the Dough: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt until well combined. In another bowl, whisk the eggs, buttermilk, melted butter, and vanilla extract together until smooth.
  2. Combine: Gradually pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients, mixing gently until just combined. Be careful not to overmix; a few lumps are okay!
  3. Chill: Cover your dough and let it chill in the refrigerator for about 30 minutes. Chilling makes the dough easier to handle.
  4. Shape: After chilling, roll out the dough on a floured surface to about ½ inch thick. Use a heart-shaped cookie cutter to cut out your doughnut holes, and place them on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
  5. Fry: In a deep skillet, heat your oil to 350°F. Carefully fry the doughnut holes in batches, ensuring they do not overcrowd the pan. Fry until golden brown, about 2-3 minutes per side.
  6. Drain: Remove the doughnut holes with a slotted spoon and allow them to drain on paper towels.
  7. Make the Glaze: While they cool, whisk powdered sugar and milk in a bowl until smooth. Adjust the consistency to your liking by adding more powdered sugar or milk if necessary.
  8. Dip and Cool: Dip the cooled doughnut holes in the glaze, then place them on a cooling rack to let the glaze set.

Notes

For a thicker glaze, use less milk. Feel free to customize by adding food coloring or sprinkles for a festive flair.
