Ingredients
Scale
- 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 3/4 cup granulated sugar
- 3/4 cup brown sugar, packed
- 2 large eggs
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/4 cup cocoa powder
- Pinch of salt
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
- Cream together the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy.
- Add in the eggs one at a time, along with the vanilla extract, mixing well between each addition.
- Whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, cocoa powder, and a pinch of salt in a separate bowl.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, stirring until well combined.
- Divide the dough in half. Take one half and fold in additional cocoa powder for a richer chocolate flavor if desired.
- Roll the half of the vanilla dough and half of the chocolate dough together to form a log.
- Wrap the log in plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least an hour.
- Slice the log into 1/4-inch thick rounds and place them on the prepared baking sheets.
- Bake for about 10-12 minutes, until the edges are just starting to turn golden.
- Cool before decorating or enjoying plain.
Notes
Ensure your butter is at room temperature for easier creaming. Using a cookie scoop helps with uniform size for even baking.
