- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
- 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 2 tsp baking powder
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 4 large eggs
- 2 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 cup whole milk
- Zest and juice of 1 orange
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour your cake pans.
- Mix the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt in a medium bowl.
- Cream the butter and sugar in a large mixing bowl until light and fluffy, about 3-4 minutes.
- Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Then add the vanilla extract.
- Incorporate the dry mixture gradually, alternating with the milk, mixing until just combined.
- Fold in the orange zest and juice gently into the batter.
- Divide the batter into two bowls. Mix the remaining zest and juice into one half.
- Layer the batters alternately in the prepared pans and swirl them gently for marbling.
- Bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
- Cool the cakes in the pans for 10 minutes before transferring to wire racks to cool completely.
