  • 45 tart apples (e.g., Granny Smith or Honeycrisp)
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • Optional: Fresh rosemary or mint

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Dough: If making homemade dough, mix flour, butter, and a pinch of salt until crumbly. Gradually add cold water until mixture forms a ball. Chill the dough in the fridge for at least 30 minutes.
  2. Slice the Apples: Wash and core your apples. Cut them into thin slices, about 1/8 inch thick.
  3. Prep the Apples: Combine apple slices with lemon juice, sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Let them sit for about 15 minutes.
  4. Roll out the Dough: On a lightly floured surface, roll out your dough into a circle, roughly 12 inches in diameter. Transfer to a tart or pie dish. Trim any excess over the edges.
  5. Layer the Apples: Starting from the outer edge, arrange apple slices beautifully, overlapping them slightly. Work your way inward until the entire surface is covered.
  6. Brush with Butter: Melt butter and brush gently over the apples.
  7. Bake the Tart: Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until apples are tender and crust is golden brown.
