Description

A comforting classic dish of thinly sliced potatoes layered with cream, garlic, and cheese, perfect for family gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 large Russet or Yukon Gold potatoes, thinly sliced
  • 2 cups heavy cream
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup sharp cheddar cheese, shredded
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Fresh herbs (thyme or rosemary) optional

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Peel and slice potatoes thinly, about 1/8 inch thick.
  3. Melt butter in a skillet over low heat, add minced garlic, and sauté for 1-2 minutes.
  4. In a large bowl, combine heavy cream, sautéed garlic, salt, and pepper.
  5. In a greased baking dish, layer sliced potatoes, pour some cream mixture over, sprinkle cheese, and repeat until all layers are done, ending with cream and cheese on top.
  6. Cover with foil and bake for 45 minutes; remove foil and bake for another 15-20 minutes until golden.
  7. Allow to rest for 10 minutes before serving.

Notes

For a lighter version, use whole milk instead of heavy cream. You can add other cheeses like Gruyère or mozzarella for different flavors.
