- 4 large Russet or Yukon Gold potatoes, thinly sliced
- 2 cups heavy cream
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 cup sharp cheddar cheese, shredded
- 2 tablespoons butter
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Fresh herbs (thyme or rosemary) optional
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Peel and slice potatoes thinly, about 1/8 inch thick.
- Melt butter in a skillet over low heat, add minced garlic, and sauté for 1-2 minutes.
- In a large bowl, combine heavy cream, sautéed garlic, salt, and pepper.
- In a greased baking dish, layer sliced potatoes, pour some cream mixture over, sprinkle cheese, and repeat until all layers are done, ending with cream and cheese on top.
- Cover with foil and bake for 45 minutes; remove foil and bake for another 15-20 minutes until golden.
- Allow to rest for 10 minutes before serving.
Notes
For a lighter version, use whole milk instead of heavy cream. You can add other cheeses like Gruyère or mozzarella for different flavors.
