Description

A nostalgic and comforting apple cobbler recipe that combines tender apples with a buttery, flaky topping, perfect for family gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 68 medium apples (Granny Smith and Honeycrisp recommended)
  • 1 cup granulated sugar (or brown sugar for a caramel depth)
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • Pinch of nutmeg
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour (or whole wheat)
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • Pinch of salt
  • ½ cup melted unsalted butter (cooled)
  • 1 cup whole milk (or buttermilk)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Peel, core, and slice the apples, then mix them with sugar, lemon juice, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Let sit for 10 minutes.
  3. In a large bowl, whisk the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt. In another bowl, mix the melted butter, milk, and vanilla. Combine wet and dry ingredients until just mixed.
  4. Spoon the apple mixture into a greased baking dish and pour the cobbler topping over it evenly.
  5. Bake for 35-45 minutes until the top is golden brown and bubbly.
  6. Let cool for 15 minutes before serving.

Notes

For extra flavor, consider adding bourbon to the apple mixture or topping with oats or nuts for crunch.
