Description
A cherished family recipe for soft and chewy snickerdoodle cookies, with a delightful cinnamon sugar coating.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 teaspoons cream of tartar
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar (for rolling)
- 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon (for rolling)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a bowl, whisk together the flour, cream of tartar, baking soda, and salt.
- In a large mixing bowl, cream the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy (about 2-3 minutes).
- Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition, then stir in vanilla extract if using.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, blending gently until just mixed.
- In a small bowl, combine 1/4 cup sugar with 2 teaspoons of cinnamon for rolling the cookies.
- Scoop tablespoon-sized portions of dough, roll into balls, and coat in cinnamon sugar mixture.
- Place on the prepared baking sheet, leaving space between each cookie.
- Bake for 8-10 minutes until lightly golden but still soft in the center.
- Let cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
Notes
Use room-temperature ingredients for best results. Chilling the dough for 30 minutes can yield thicker cookies.
