Description

A cherished family recipe for soft and chewy snickerdoodle cookies, with a delightful cinnamon sugar coating.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons cream of tartar
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar (for rolling)
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon (for rolling)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together the flour, cream of tartar, baking soda, and salt.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, cream the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy (about 2-3 minutes).
  4. Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition, then stir in vanilla extract if using.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, blending gently until just mixed.
  6. In a small bowl, combine 1/4 cup sugar with 2 teaspoons of cinnamon for rolling the cookies.
  7. Scoop tablespoon-sized portions of dough, roll into balls, and coat in cinnamon sugar mixture.
  8. Place on the prepared baking sheet, leaving space between each cookie.
  9. Bake for 8-10 minutes until lightly golden but still soft in the center.
  10. Let cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

Use room-temperature ingredients for best results. Chilling the dough for 30 minutes can yield thicker cookies.
