  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk
  • 1 tbsp red food coloring
  • 1 cup powdered sugar (for rolling)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. Cream together the butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy.
  4. Add eggs one at a time, then mix in buttermilk and red food coloring.
  5. Gradually mix in dry ingredients until just incorporated.
  6. Chill the dough in the refrigerator for at least one hour.
  7. Scoop chilled dough into tablespoon-sized balls and roll in powdered sugar.
  8. Place on the baking sheet and bake for 10-12 minutes, until edges are firm but centers are soft.
  9. Cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes, then transfer to a wire rack.
