Description

A delightful Italian dessert that combines ripe pears with a buttery, moist cake, perfect for family gatherings and special occasions.

Ingredients

Scale
  • Ripe pears (Bartlett or Bosc), peeled and sliced
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar (or golden brown sugar)
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 3 large eggs
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 cup whole milk (or almond milk)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • Zest of 1 lemon or orange
  • Pinch of salt
  • Powdered sugar for dusting

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9-inch round cake pan or line it with parchment paper.
  2. Peel, core, and slice the pears into thin pieces, then toss them with a sprinkle of lemon juice.
  3. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt.
  4. In a large mixing bowl, beat the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy, about 3-5 minutes.
  5. Add the eggs, one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Then add the milk and vanilla extract, mixing to combine.
  6. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, stirring gently until just combined.
  7. Fold in the sliced pears gently until evenly distributed.
  8. Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan, smoothing the top with a spatula.
  9. Bake for 45-50 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  10. Allow the cake to cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring it to a wire rack. Dust with powdered sugar and serve with whipped cream or vanilla ice cream.

Notes

For variations, you can substitute pears with apples or peaches. To make it gluten-free, consider using almond flour with adjustments to liquid ingredients.
