  • ¼ cup baking soda
  • Coarse salt for sprinkling
  • Optional: garlic powder, onion powder, cheese for added flavor

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, combine warm water with yeast and a bit of sugar. Let it bubble and froth for about 5–10 minutes.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine flour and salt. Create a well in the center, then pour in the yeast and melted butter. Mix until it forms a dough.
  3. On a floured surface, knead the dough for about 5–7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  4. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a towel, and let it rise in a warm environment for about an hour, until it has doubled in size.
  5. Punch down the risen dough and roll it into ropes. Cut into bite-sized pieces and shape them into little balls.
  6. Boil water in a large pot and add baking soda. Carefully drop the dough balls into the bath, cooking for about 30 seconds on each side.
  7. Place the precooked bites on a parchment-lined baking sheet, brush with melted butter, and sprinkle with coarse salt. Bake at 425°F (220°C) for about 10-12 minutes until golden brown.
