Description

Delicious apple scones topped with a sweet maple glaze, perfect for breakfast or an afternoon snack.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup cold unsalted butter, cubed
  • 1 cup diced apples (preferably Granny Smith or Honeycrisp)
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk (or milk)
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 cup powdered sugar (for glaze)
  • 34 tablespoons maple syrup (for glaze)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
  3. Cut in the cold butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. Stir in the diced apples.
  5. In another bowl, whisk together buttermilk and egg. Pour into the dry ingredients and fold until just combined.
  6. Turn the dough onto a floured surface, shape into a circle 1-inch thick, and cut into wedges or rounds.
  7. Place the scones on the baking sheet and bake for 15-20 minutes, until golden brown.
  8. While baking, whisk together powdered sugar and maple syrup for the glaze.
  9. Once the scones are cooled slightly, drizzle the glaze over the top and enjoy!

Notes

Experiment with other fruits or spices if desired. Keep everything cold for flakier scones.
