Delicious apple scones topped with a sweet maple glaze, perfect for breakfast or an afternoon snack.

- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 tablespoons sugar
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup cold unsalted butter, cubed
- 1 cup diced apples (preferably Granny Smith or Honeycrisp)
- 1/2 cup buttermilk (or milk)
- 1 large egg
- 1 cup powdered sugar (for glaze)
- 3–4 tablespoons maple syrup (for glaze)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
- Cut in the cold butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Stir in the diced apples.
- In another bowl, whisk together buttermilk and egg. Pour into the dry ingredients and fold until just combined.
- Turn the dough onto a floured surface, shape into a circle 1-inch thick, and cut into wedges or rounds.
- Place the scones on the baking sheet and bake for 15-20 minutes, until golden brown.
- While baking, whisk together powdered sugar and maple syrup for the glaze.
- Once the scones are cooled slightly, drizzle the glaze over the top and enjoy!
Notes
Experiment with other fruits or spices if desired. Keep everything cold for flakier scones.
