Description
Delightful and soft holiday sugar cookies that evoke warmth and nostalgia, perfect for festive gatherings.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
- 1 large egg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- Optional: sprinkles, chocolate chips, or crushed candy canes for decorating
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
- Cream together the softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
- Add the egg and vanilla extract, mixing until fully incorporated.
- In another bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Gradually add this to the wet ingredients and stir just until combined.
- If using additional flavors or sprinkles, gently fold them in.
- Scoop the dough onto prepared baking sheets, leaving space between cookies.
- Bake for 8-10 minutes, until edges are lightly golden. The centers will look underbaked but will firm as they cool.
- Let cookies cool on the baking sheets for a few minutes before transferring to wire racks to cool completely.
Notes
Chill the dough for 30 minutes before scooping for better shape retention. Experiment with different flavorings for variety.
