Description

Delightful and soft holiday sugar cookies that evoke warmth and nostalgia, perfect for festive gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • Optional: sprinkles, chocolate chips, or crushed candy canes for decorating

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. Cream together the softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Add the egg and vanilla extract, mixing until fully incorporated.
  4. In another bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Gradually add this to the wet ingredients and stir just until combined.
  5. If using additional flavors or sprinkles, gently fold them in.
  6. Scoop the dough onto prepared baking sheets, leaving space between cookies.
  7. Bake for 8-10 minutes, until edges are lightly golden. The centers will look underbaked but will firm as they cool.
  8. Let cookies cool on the baking sheets for a few minutes before transferring to wire racks to cool completely.

Notes

Chill the dough for 30 minutes before scooping for better shape retention. Experiment with different flavorings for variety.
