Description

Delicious multi-layer brownie bars filled with caramel and pecans, perfect for the holiday season.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup cocoa powder
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1 can (14 oz) sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1 cup pecans, chopped
  • 1 cup additional chocolate chips (for topping)
  • Sea salt (for topping)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13 inch baking pan or line it with parchment paper for easy removal.
  2. In a saucepan, melt the unsalted butter over low heat. Remove from the heat and stir in granulated and brown sugar until blended.
  3. Add eggs, one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
  4. Sift together flour, cocoa powder, and salt; gradually stir into the butter mixture until just combined.
  5. Pour half of the brownie batter into the prepared baking pan and spread evenly.
  6. In a bowl, combine the sweetened condensed milk with semi-sweet chocolate chips. Microwave for 30-second intervals, stirring until melted and smooth.
  7. Pour the chocolate mixture over the brownie base. Sprinkle chopped pecans on top.
  8. Dollop the remaining brownie batter over the caramel layer and spread gently.
  9. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with a few moist crumbs.
  10. Remove from the oven and let it cool completely before cutting into bars.

Notes

For a nut-free option, replace pecans with crispy rice cereal. For gluten-free, use a gluten-free flour blend.
