Description
Delicious multi-layer brownie bars filled with caramel and pecans, perfect for the holiday season.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 3 large eggs
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup cocoa powder
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1 can (14 oz) sweetened condensed milk
- 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
- 1 cup pecans, chopped
- 1 cup additional chocolate chips (for topping)
- Sea salt (for topping)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13 inch baking pan or line it with parchment paper for easy removal.
- In a saucepan, melt the unsalted butter over low heat. Remove from the heat and stir in granulated and brown sugar until blended.
- Add eggs, one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
- Sift together flour, cocoa powder, and salt; gradually stir into the butter mixture until just combined.
- Pour half of the brownie batter into the prepared baking pan and spread evenly.
- In a bowl, combine the sweetened condensed milk with semi-sweet chocolate chips. Microwave for 30-second intervals, stirring until melted and smooth.
- Pour the chocolate mixture over the brownie base. Sprinkle chopped pecans on top.
- Dollop the remaining brownie batter over the caramel layer and spread gently.
- Bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with a few moist crumbs.
- Remove from the oven and let it cool completely before cutting into bars.
Notes
For a nut-free option, replace pecans with crispy rice cereal. For gluten-free, use a gluten-free flour blend.
