Description
A delightful dessert blending the velvety texture of traditional flan with refreshing orange zest and caramel sweetness.
Ingredients
Scale
- 4 large eggs
- 1 can (14 oz) sweetened condensed milk
- 1 can (12 oz) evaporated milk
- 2–3 fresh oranges (zest and juice)
- 1 cup granulated sugar (for caramel)
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a saucepan, gently heat the sugar over medium-low heat until it melts, stirring consistently to form a beautiful amber-colored caramel.
- Quickly pour the caramel into your flan mold or a round baking dish, tilting it to coat the bottom evenly. Allow to cool and harden.
- In a blender, combine the sweetened condensed milk, evaporated milk, eggs, vanilla extract, and the zest and juice from the oranges. Blend until smooth.
- Carefully pour the custard mixture over the hardened caramel in your mold.
- Prepare a water bath by placing the flan mold inside a larger baking dish. Fill the outer dish with hot water until it reaches halfway up the sides of the flan mold.
- Bake for 50 to 60 minutes, or until the flan is set yet slightly jiggly in the center.
- Remove from the oven and let it cool on a wire rack before refrigerating for a few hours or overnight.
- To serve, run a knife around the edge of the flan and invert it onto a serving platter to let the caramel flow over the top.
Notes
Use room temperature ingredients for a smoother texture. Don’t rush the chilling process to achieve the best texture.
