Description

A delightful dessert blending the velvety texture of traditional flan with refreshing orange zest and caramel sweetness.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 can (14 oz) sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 can (12 oz) evaporated milk
  • 23 fresh oranges (zest and juice)
  • 1 cup granulated sugar (for caramel)
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a saucepan, gently heat the sugar over medium-low heat until it melts, stirring consistently to form a beautiful amber-colored caramel.
  3. Quickly pour the caramel into your flan mold or a round baking dish, tilting it to coat the bottom evenly. Allow to cool and harden.
  4. In a blender, combine the sweetened condensed milk, evaporated milk, eggs, vanilla extract, and the zest and juice from the oranges. Blend until smooth.
  5. Carefully pour the custard mixture over the hardened caramel in your mold.
  6. Prepare a water bath by placing the flan mold inside a larger baking dish. Fill the outer dish with hot water until it reaches halfway up the sides of the flan mold.
  7. Bake for 50 to 60 minutes, or until the flan is set yet slightly jiggly in the center.
  8. Remove from the oven and let it cool on a wire rack before refrigerating for a few hours or overnight.
  9. To serve, run a knife around the edge of the flan and invert it onto a serving platter to let the caramel flow over the top.

Notes

Use room temperature ingredients for a smoother texture. Don’t rush the chilling process to achieve the best texture.
