  • Author: joe
  • Total Time: 35 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings 1x
  • Diet: Vegetarian

Description

Creamy and savory mashed potatoes enriched with tangy buttermilk, perfect for any family gathering.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 lbs potatoes (preferably Russet or Yukon Gold)
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 2 cloves garlic (optional)
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Peel and dice your potatoes into even chunks for even cooking.
  2. Place the potatoes in a large pot, cover with cold water, and add a pinch of salt. Bring to a boil over medium-high heat.
  3. Once boiling, reduce the heat and let the potatoes simmer until fork-tender, about 15-20 minutes.
  4. Drain the potatoes and return them to the pot. Let them sit for a few minutes to release excess moisture.
  5. Add in the buttermilk, butter, and garlic (if using) and mash to your desired consistency.
  6. Season with salt and pepper to taste, mixing thoroughly.
  7. Serve warm with a sprinkle of fresh herbs or a drizzle of melted butter on top.

Notes

For creamier potatoes, heat buttermilk and butter before adding them. Avoid overworking the potatoes to prevent a gluey texture.
