Description
Creamy and savory mashed potatoes enriched with tangy buttermilk, perfect for any family gathering.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 lbs potatoes (preferably Russet or Yukon Gold)
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 4 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 2 cloves garlic (optional)
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- Peel and dice your potatoes into even chunks for even cooking.
- Place the potatoes in a large pot, cover with cold water, and add a pinch of salt. Bring to a boil over medium-high heat.
- Once boiling, reduce the heat and let the potatoes simmer until fork-tender, about 15-20 minutes.
- Drain the potatoes and return them to the pot. Let them sit for a few minutes to release excess moisture.
- Add in the buttermilk, butter, and garlic (if using) and mash to your desired consistency.
- Season with salt and pepper to taste, mixing thoroughly.
- Serve warm with a sprinkle of fresh herbs or a drizzle of melted butter on top.
Notes
For creamier potatoes, heat buttermilk and butter before adding them. Avoid overworking the potatoes to prevent a gluey texture.
