  • 3/4 cup whole milk
  • 1 large egg

  • 1/4 tsp nutmeg or cinnamon

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, combine warm milk, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit until frothy, about 5 minutes.
  2. In a large bowl, mix the flour, salt, and any spices.
  3. In another bowl, whisk together eggs, melted butter, and vanilla extract.
  4. Pour the wet mixture into the flour. Then add the activated yeast. Mix until a dough forms.
  5. Turn it onto a floured surface and knead for 5-8 minutes until smooth and stretchy.
  6. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a towel, and let it rise for 1-2 hours until doubled in size.
  7. Roll the dough out to about ½ inch thick. Use a heart-shaped cutter to cut out the donuts.
  8. Place the shaped donuts on parchment paper, cover, and let rise for about 30 minutes.
  9. Heat oil in a deep skillet over medium heat. Fry the donuts until golden brown on both sides, about 2-3 minutes per side.
  10. Allow them to cool slightly, then dip in a glaze or sprinkle with powdered sugar.
