Ingredients

- 1 cup unsalted butter, room temperature
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 1 large egg
- 2 tsp vanilla extract
- 1/2 tsp salt
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Cream together the butter and granulated sugar in a large mixing bowl until fluffy and pale.
- Beat in the egg and vanilla extract until fully incorporated.
- In another bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Gradually add to the wet mixture, stirring until just combined.
- Wrap the dough in plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.
- Roll the dough out on a floured surface to about 1/4 inch thick and cut out heart shapes with a cookie cutter.
- Place cookies on a parchment-lined baking sheet, spacing 2 inches apart, and bake for 8-10 minutes or until edges are lightly golden.
- Cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
- Decorate as desired with icing, sprinkles, or edible glitter.
