- 1 ½ tsp baking powder
- ½ tsp baking soda
- ½ tsp salt
- 1 ½ cups granulated sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a heart-shaped cake pan.
- In a large bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- In another bowl, cream the butter and sugar until light and fluffy, about 3-5 minutes.
- Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition, then mix in vanilla.
- Gradually add dry ingredients to the butter mixture, alternating with buttermilk; stir until just combined.
- Pour batter into the prepared pan and smooth the top.
- Bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- Cool the cake in the pan for 10 minutes before turning it onto a wire rack to cool completely.
Notes
For an extra layer of richness, prepare a simple chocolate ganache to drizzle on top of the cooled cake.
