Ingredients
Scale
- 4 cups apples, peeled and sliced (mix of Granny Smith and Honeycrisp)
- 1 cup caramel sauce
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 cup rolled oats
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- 1/2 tsp nutmeg
- 1/4 tsp salt
Instructions
- Prepare the apples by peeling, coring, and slicing them thinly. Toss with lemon juice, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
- In a medium saucepan, cook the apple slices with brown sugar and salt over medium heat for 5-7 minutes until softened. Stir in caramel sauce.
- In a bowl, mix flour, oats, sugars, and salt. Cut in cold butter until it resembles coarse crumbs.
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). In a baking dish, layer the apple mixture and sprinkle the topping on top.
- Bake for 25-30 minutes until bubbly and golden brown. Let cool slightly before serving.
- Drizzle with additional caramel and serve with vanilla ice cream if desired.
Notes
For variations, try pears instead of apples or crushed nuts in the topping. Ensure even slicing for uniform cooking.
