Description

A comforting and festive dish that combines sweet potatoes and cranberries in a creamy gratin, making it a family favorite for holiday gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 23 medium sweet potatoes, peeled and thinly sliced
  • 1 cup fresh or dried cranberries
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 cup grated sharp cheddar or Gruyère cheese
  • Salt, to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Peel and thinly slice the sweet potatoes, around ¼ inch thick.
  3. If using fresh cranberries, sort through them; if using dried, soak them in warm water for 10 minutes.
  4. In a greased baking dish, layer the sweet potatoes and cranberries, sprinkling nutmeg and salt between layers.
  5. Pour heavy cream over the dish, add dollops of butter, and top with grated cheese.
  6. Cover with foil and bake for 30-35 minutes; remove the foil for the last 10-15 minutes to brown the top.
  7. Let cool for 10 minutes before serving.

Notes

Ensure even slicing for uniform cooking. Let the dish rest after baking for better serving.
