Ingredients

  • 6 cups of sliced apples (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp)
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar (or brown sugar)
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour (or gluten-free flour)
  • 2 teaspoons Apple Pie Spice
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • Water (as needed)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Crust: In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour and salt. Cut in the butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Gradually add cold water until the dough forms. Chill for at least 30 minutes.
  2. Slice the Apples: Slice your apples into thin wedges. Toss with lemon juice and sprinkle generously with Apple Pie Spice. Let the mixture rest for a moment.
  3. Preheat and Roll: Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C). Roll out half of the dough into a 12-inch round and place it in a 9-inch pie dish.
  4. Fill the Pie: Spoon the spiced apple mixture into the crust and sprinkle more sugar and Apple Pie Spice on top.
  5. Top It Off: Roll out the second half of the dough and place it over the filling, crimping the edges to seal. Cut slits in the top.
  6. Bake: Bake for about 45-50 minutes, or until the apples are soft and the crust is golden brown. Allow it to cool before serving.

Serve warm with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream topped with extra Apple Pie Spice.
