Description

A delightful treat featuring buttery, flaky pastry filled with crunchy almonds and sweetened with sugar, perfect for family gatherings or a quiet afternoon.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
  • 1/4 cup cold water
  • 1 cup slivered almonds
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Dough: In a mixing bowl, combine flour, butter, and salt. Mix until it resembles coarse crumbs. Slowly add cold water and mix until dough forms. Wrap in plastic wrap and refrigerate for 30 minutes.
  2. Roll the Dough: Roll out the chilled dough into a rectangle about 1/4 inch thick on a floured surface.
  3. Create the Almond Filling: In a bowl, mix slivered almonds, sugar, egg, and vanilla until combined.
  4. Assemble: Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Spread the almond mixture over the rolled-out dough. Roll into a log shape and cut into equal slices.
  5. Bake: Place slices cut side up on a lined baking sheet, brush with beaten egg, and bake for 25-30 minutes until golden brown.
  6. Cool & Serve: Let pastries cool slightly and dust with powdered sugar. Serve warm or at room temperature.

Notes

For gluten-free, use almond flour. For a vegan version, substitute butter with coconut oil.
