- 3 lbs Yukon Gold potatoes, thinly sliced
- 2 cups Gruyère cheese, grated
- 2 cups heavy cream
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon fresh thyme or rosemary
- 2 tablespoons butter (for greasing)
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Wash and peel the potatoes, then slice them thinly.
- In a skillet, melt butter over medium heat and sauté garlic until fragrant.
- In a bowl, mix heavy cream, sautéed garlic, salt, and pepper. Add fresh herbs.
- In a greased baking dish, layer potato slices, Gruyère cheese, and cream mixture. Repeat until all ingredients are used, finishing with Gruyère on top.
- Cover with foil and bake for 45 minutes, then uncover and bake for an additional 20 minutes until golden and bubbly.
- Let the gratin rest for a few minutes before slicing, then serve.
- Garnish with fresh herbs if desired.
Notes
For easier serving, allow the gratin to rest after baking. You can prep a day in advance and refrigerate before baking.
