- 1 fresh salmon fillet (skin-on)
- Wood pellets (cherry, alder, or mesquite)
- ½ cup brown sugar
- 1 cup soy sauce
- 3 tablespoons Dijon mustard
- 3 minced garlic cloves
- 1 teaspoon cracked black pepper
- Juice of 1 lemon
- Optional: Fresh herbs (dill or parsley) and/or a splash of whiskey or bourbon
Instructions
- In a bowl, mix together soy sauce, brown sugar, Dijon mustard, minced garlic, and black pepper. Add whiskey if desired.
- Place the salmon fillet in a dish and pour the marinade over it. Cover and refrigerate for at least 2 hours, preferably overnight.
- Preheat the Traeger to 225°F for about 15 minutes.
- Remove the salmon from the marinade and bring it to room temperature for 30 minutes. Pat dry and place skin-side down on the grill.
- Smoke the salmon for 1 to 1.5 hours until it reaches an internal temperature of 145°F. Brush with excess marinade halfway through.
- Let it rest for 5-10 minutes before serving. Squeeze fresh lemon juice over the top and garnish with fresh herbs if desired.
- Slice into portions and enjoy warm!
Notes
Avoid flipping the salmon while smoking for best results. Using fresh ingredients yields the best flavors.
