Description

A delicious Sweet Potato Cranberry Gratin with layers of creamy sweet potatoes and tart cranberries, perfect for family gatherings and holiday feasts.


Ingredients

  • 2 lbs sweet potatoes, peeled and sliced
  • 2 cups fresh cranberries
  • 4 tbsp butter
  • 1 cup heavy cream or milk
  • 1 cup Gruyère or sharp cheddar cheese, shredded
  • 1 clove minced garlic
  • 2 tsp fresh thyme
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • A pinch of nutmeg (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Peel and slice sweet potatoes into 1/8-inch rounds.
  3. In a skillet, melt butter over medium heat, add minced garlic and fresh herbs, and sauté until fragrant.
  4. Layer sweet potato slices in a greased baking dish, sprinkling cranberries and drizzling sautéed mixture over each layer.
  5. In a bowl, whisk together cream, cheese, salt, and pepper, and pour over the layered vegetables.
  6. Cover with aluminum foil and bake for 30 minutes. Remove foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes until golden and bubbly.
  7. Let the gratin rest for 10 minutes before serving.

Notes

For added flavor, consider incorporating sautéed mushrooms or caramelized onions. Allowing the gratin to rest after baking will help set the layers for easier serving.
