Description
A warm and tender cake infused with the sweet-tart essence of fresh apples, cinnamon, and cardamom, reminiscent of family gatherings.
Ingredients
Scale
- 3–4 medium-sized apples (Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, or Fuji)
- 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- ¾ cup unsalted butter, softened
- 3 large eggs
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- ½ teaspoon baking soda
- ½ teaspoon cinnamon
- ¼ teaspoon ground cardamom
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- ½ cup milk
- 1 tablespoon sugar (for apple tossing)
- Pinch of salt
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9-inch round cake pan or a springform pan. Line the base with parchment paper.
- Peel and slice the apples, then toss them with cinnamon and a tablespoon of sugar. Set aside.
- Cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until fluffy.
- Add the eggs one at a time, mixing thoroughly after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.
- In another bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, baking soda, cinnamon, and salt. Gradually mix this into the wet ingredients, alternating with the milk until just combined.
- Gently fold in the prepared apples and pour the batter into the prepared pan.
- Bake for 45-50 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Allow the cake to cool before transferring to a wire rack.
- Dust with powdered sugar or serve with whipped cream or ice cream.
Notes
Use room temperature ingredients for a smoother batter. Don’t skip the resting time for the apples to enhance moisture.
