  • 1 teaspoon baking soda

  • 1 tablespoon red food coloring
  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Cream together the butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until fluffy (about 2-3 minutes).
  3. Add the egg and mix in the buttermilk and vanilla extract.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, and baking soda. Gradually combine this with the wet mixture until just combined.
  5. Add red food coloring until the desired hue is achieved.
  6. Drop spoonfuls of dough onto the prepared baking sheet, spacing them 2 inches apart.
  7. Bake for 10-12 minutes, until edges are set and tops look dry.
  8. Let cookies cool before preparing the frosting by beating cream cheese and butter until smooth, then add powdered sugar to taste.
  9. Spread or pipe frosting onto cooled cookies.
