Ingredients

  • 3/4 cup heavy cream (or buttermilk, almond milk)
  • 1/4 cup fresh orange juice
  • 1 tbsp orange zest
  • 1 egg

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, and chai spices until well combined.
  3. Dice the cold butter into small pieces and incorporate it into the flour mixture until it resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. In a separate bowl, mix the heavy cream, orange juice, orange zest, and egg until combined. Pour this mixture into the dry ingredients.
  5. Gently fold the ingredients together until just combined, being careful not to overmix.
  6. Lightly flour your countertop and turn the dough out. Knead it gently a few times to form a cohesive ball. Pat the dough into a 1-inch thick disk.
  7. Cut into wedges or use a round cutter to create individual scones. Place them on the prepared baking sheet.
  8. Brush the tops with a little extra cream or milk for a lovely finish.
  9. Bake for 15-20 minutes or until golden brown. Serve warm.
