Description
Delightful scones infused with zesty orange and aromatic chai spices, creating a soft, crumbly texture that evokes warmth and nostalgia.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/3 cup granulated sugar
- 2 tsp baking powder
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1 tsp chai spice mix (or individual spices: cinnamon, cardamom, ginger)
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and diced
- 3/4 cup heavy cream (or buttermilk, almond milk)
- 1/4 cup fresh orange juice
- 1 tbsp orange zest
- 1 egg
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, and chai spices until well combined.
- Dice the cold butter into small pieces and incorporate it into the flour mixture until it resembles coarse crumbs.
- In a separate bowl, mix the heavy cream, orange juice, orange zest, and egg until combined. Pour this mixture into the dry ingredients.
- Gently fold the ingredients together until just combined, being careful not to overmix.
- Lightly flour your countertop and turn the dough out. Knead it gently a few times to form a cohesive ball. Pat the dough into a 1-inch thick disk.
- Cut into wedges or use a round cutter to create individual scones. Place them on the prepared baking sheet.
- Brush the tops with a little extra cream or milk for a lovely finish.
- Bake for 15-20 minutes or until golden brown. Serve warm.
Notes
For added sweetness, consider drizzling honey or maple syrup into the dough. Let scones cool slightly before serving to enhance flavors.
