- 2 tablespoons milk (for glaze)
Instructions
- Activate the yeast by mixing warm milk, sugar, and yeast in a small bowl; let sit until frothy.
- In a large bowl, whisk together flour, granulated sugar, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
- In another bowl, combine eggs, warm milk, melted butter, and vanilla.
- Combine the wet mixture with the dry ingredients and knead on a floured surface for 8-10 minutes until smooth.
- Let the dough rise in a greased bowl, covered, for about 1 hour until doubled in size.
- Prepare the filling by mixing brown sugar and cinnamon in a small bowl.
- Punch down the dough, roll it out, spread butter, and sprinkle filling evenly; roll tightly into a log.
- Slice the log into 1.5-inch pieces and let them rise for another 30-40 minutes.
- Bake in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for 20-25 minutes until golden brown.
- Prepare the custard bath with eggs, milk, and vanilla, drizzling it over warm bread after baking.
- For the glaze, whisk powdered sugar with milk and drizzle over cooled rolls.
Notes
Ensure yeast is fresh for proper rising. Don’t skip rise times for the best texture.
