A delightful Cinnamon Swirl Bread infused with a custard bath and topped with a sweet glaze, ideal for sharing with family and friends.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1/4 cup warm milk
  • 1 teaspoon sugar (for yeast activation)
  • 2 teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 2 eggs
  • 3/4 cup warm milk
  • 1/4 cup melted unsalted butter
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar (for filling)
  • 2 tablespoons cinnamon (for filling)
  • 1 cup powdered sugar (for glaze)
  • 2 tablespoons milk (for glaze)

Instructions

  1. Activate the yeast by mixing warm milk, sugar, and yeast in a small bowl; let sit until frothy.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, granulated sugar, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
  3. In another bowl, combine eggs, warm milk, melted butter, and vanilla.
  4. Combine the wet mixture with the dry ingredients and knead on a floured surface for 8-10 minutes until smooth.
  5. Let the dough rise in a greased bowl, covered, for about 1 hour until doubled in size.
  6. Prepare the filling by mixing brown sugar and cinnamon in a small bowl.
  7. Punch down the dough, roll it out, spread butter, and sprinkle filling evenly; roll tightly into a log.
  8. Slice the log into 1.5-inch pieces and let them rise for another 30-40 minutes.
  9. Bake in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for 20-25 minutes until golden brown.
  10. Prepare the custard bath with eggs, milk, and vanilla, drizzling it over warm bread after baking.
  11. For the glaze, whisk powdered sugar with milk and drizzle over cooled rolls.

Notes

Ensure yeast is fresh for proper rising. Don’t skip rise times for the best texture.
