Description

A delightful recipe for sweet and tart candied cranberries that evoke nostalgia and joy.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups fresh cranberries
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract (optional)
  • 1 tsp orange zest (optional)
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon (optional)

Instructions

  1. Rinse the cranberries thoroughly and pick out any that aren’t firm and bright.
  2. In a saucepan, combine equal parts of water and granulated sugar. Bring this mixture to a gentle boil, stirring until all the sugar dissolves.
  3. Once the syrup is boiling, add the cranberries to the mix. Let them cook for about 10-15 minutes, until they soften slightly and begin to pop.
  4. Remove the pot from heat and allow the cranberries to cool in the syrup for about an hour.
  5. Drain the cranberries and let them dry on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
  6. Once dry, toss the cranberries in a little extra sugar to give them that sparkling finish.

Notes

Ensure that the cranberries are evenly coated in syrup before drying. Let them dry properly for the ideal crunch.
