A comforting and hearty dish featuring layers of ground beef, vegetables, and a creamy cheesy topping, all slow-cooked to perfection.


Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef (or ground turkey/chicken)
  • 2 cups chopped vegetables (carrots, peas, mushrooms)
  • 1 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • 2 cups peeled and chopped potatoes (Yukon gold or russet)
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Your favorite gravy or beef broth
  • Fresh herbs for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Brown the ground beef in a skillet over medium heat, adding chopped onions and garlic until fragrant.
  2. Chop your vegetables and mix them into the meat mixture.
  3. Transfer the meat and vegetable mixture into the slow cooker. Pour in gravy or beef broth.
  4. Boil the peeled potatoes until fork-tender, then mash with butter, milk, salt, and pepper until creamy.
  5. Spread the mashed potatoes over the meat and vegetable mix and top with more cheese if desired.
  6. Cover and cook on low for 6-8 hours or on high for 3-4 hours.
  7. Let sit for a few minutes before serving. Garnish with fresh herbs if desired.

Notes

For a vegetarian option, use lentils or quinoa instead of meat and vegan cheese alternatives.
