Ingredients

  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup maraschino cherries, finely chopped
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy (about 3-5 minutes).
  3. Mix in the vanilla extract until thoroughly combined.
  4. Gradually add flour and salt. Stir until combined but do not overmix.
  5. Carefully fold in the chopped maraschino cherries.
  6. Scoop tablespoon portions of dough, roll them into balls, and place them on a lined baking sheet.
  7. Bake for 10-12 minutes or until the edges are lightly golden.
  8. Let cool for a couple of minutes on the sheet before transferring to a wire rack.

Notes

For a different flavor, try substituting almond extract for vanilla, or add chopped nuts like pecans or walnuts.
