Description

A warm and comforting casserole combining savory meatloaf and creamy mashed potatoes topped with cheese.


Ingredients

  • 1 ½ pounds ground beef or turkey
  • 4 large russet or Yukon Gold potatoes
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup chopped mushrooms (cremini or button)
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 23 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs
  • Salt, to taste
  • Black pepper, to taste
  • Worcestershire sauce, to taste
  • Fresh parsley or chives, for garnishing

Instructions

  1. Peel and chop the potatoes, then boil them in salted water until tender (15-20 minutes).
  2. In a skillet, sauté the chopped onion in olive oil until translucent, then add minced garlic and mushrooms. Cook until golden brown and set aside.
  3. In a mixing bowl, combine ground meat, sautéed mixture, egg, breadcrumbs, and seasonings. Mix until just combined.
  4. Drain the potatoes, then mash with butter, milk, and salt until creamy.
  5. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). In a greased baking dish, spread the meat mixture, then top with mashed potatoes and cheese.
  6. Bake for about 45 minutes until the cheese is bubbling. Broil for 2-3 minutes for a crispy top.
  7. Let it cool slightly, garnish with herbs, and serve.

Notes

For lighter variations, use ground turkey and reduce cheese. Cauliflower can be substituted for potatoes for a keto-friendly option.
