- 4 slices of smoky ham
- 4 slices of Swiss cheese
- 1 cup panko breadcrumbs
- 1 egg
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Garlic powder (optional)
- Smoked paprika (optional)
- Olive oil or melted butter for cooking
Instructions
- Flatten chicken breasts to ensure even cooking, season with salt, pepper, and spices.
- Layer one chicken piece with a slice of ham and Swiss cheese, then top it with the other chicken piece to form a sandwich.
- Whisk an egg in a shallow dish, and place breadcrumbs mixed with salt in another dish.
- Dredge the sandwich in the egg wash, then coat with breadcrumbs.
- Heat oil or butter in a skillet over medium heat, and cook the sandwich for 4–5 minutes on each side until golden brown and cooked through.
- Transfer to a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
- Let rest for a minute before slicing and serving, optionally with garlic mushrooms.
Notes
For a meatless option, replace chicken with eggplant or mushroom steaks. Whole-grain bread can also be used for a healthier twist.
